Students Taking Action on Darfur

Action Options for a Protection Focus

Level 1: Expose the conditions in Darfur

  • Use PHR's Google Earth virtual tour of Darfur to display the tangible consequences of the genocide
  • Collect signatures or handwritten letters as part of actions to stop the attacks
  • See PHR's Google Earth Guide, Google Earth tour, and Sample Protection Petition

Level 2: Join forces with faith-based groups on your campus to push for protection

  • Highlight the cultural and religious diversity of the Darfurian people by collaborating with faith-based groups on your campus to host a panel & letter-writing event
  • Hold a write-a-thon: Gather your peers together for food, music and education to write a letter to the US Congress to push for stronger protection measures for Darfurian survivors
  • See PHR's Sample Petition and guide, "Collaborate: Strengthen the Collective Voice"

Level 3: Beyond the genocide: Learn about the Darfurian people and their culture

  • Host a Darfur awareness event highlighting Darfurian culture. Your event could be a drumming concert, a dance, a Darfurian food dinner, poetry, or an art exhibit.
  • See PHR's guide on hosting an event in the PHR Student Chapter Toolbox, also available from your chapter leader
